The Northeast Iowa council became home to Timmeu lodge #74 on May 14, 1935 making it the first OA lodge in the state of Iowa. The Order of the Arrow was selected to be the the honor camping society for the council after the Boy Scout National Office recognized it in 1934. The name "Timmeu" - which in Old Lenape - means "wolf head" was probably chosen by Glen Fordyce, the Council Executive at that time. With a little over 350 members, and slightly growing by each passing year, Timmeu has continued to provide the Scouts of Northeast Iowa with cheerful service to the communities under the nickname, "The Little Lodge with a Big Impact." |
